Camera Registry
Community Camera Registry
We’re partnering with our community to build a voluntary camera registry that helps solve crime faster, while keeping you in full control of your video.
Our interactive map of security cameras will:
- Help investigators quickly identify nearby cameras after an incident
- Provide contact information so officers can request footage directly from you
- Be accessible only to Renton Police—and only with your permission
- Improve the speed and efficiency of collecting video evidence
- Strengthen collaboration to keep our community safe
Your privacy and security come first.
Registering is easy! You’ll be asked to provide your name, email address, and phone number, as well as the number and locations of your camera(s).
Camera Registration FAQs
What is the Camera Registry Program?
The Camera Registry Program is a partnership between the Renton Police Department and the community to help solve crimes and improve public safety. By registering your security cameras, you help officers quickly identify potential video evidence following an incident.
How does the camera registry work?
Residents and business owners can register their cameras through a secure online portal. This creates a citywide map accessible only to authorized Renton Police investigators, enabling them to identify nearby cameras that may have captured relevant footage. The platform works with most commercially available camera systems.
Does registering my camera give police access to my video?
No. Registering your camera does not give the Renton Police Department access to your live feed or recorded video. It simply allows investigators to contact you and request footage if an incident occurs nearby.
Am I required to provide video if requested?
No. Participation is completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to share footage if you are contacted.
How much does it cost to register?
There is no cost. Registration is free.
What information is required to register?
The registration form asks for:
- First and last name
- Email address
- Cell phone number
- Camera location address
- Number of internal and external cameras
How will law enforcement contact me?
If your camera may have captured relevant footage, an investigator will contact you using the information you provided during registration.
Who has access to the camera registry?
Only authorized members of the Renton Police Department can access the registry. It is not shared with other jurisdictions.
Is my information subject to public disclosure?
Information provided through the registry may be subject to public disclosure laws, unless the request is made for a commercial purpose. The City of Renton takes steps to protect participant information and will evaluate any disclosure requests carefully under applicable law.
Will facial recognition technology be used?
No. The program does not use facial recognition technology.
Will the Renton Police Department have a real-time streaming option?
Yes. Real-time streaming is available through the FūsusCORE device with conditional access. Camera owners can choose how and when their cameras are accessible to the police department. For example, private businesses and schools may choose to have their cameras accessible to Renton Police Department officers only when an emergency arises, activating the live-streaming capability via a panic button. Private residents and neighborhoods can also choose to do so or opt out entirely.
Can I update or remove my information?
Yes. You can update or delete your registration at any time by contacting connect@fusus.com.
Why should I participate?
By registering your camera, you’re helping investigators respond more efficiently and increasing the chances of solving crimes, making Renton a safer place for everyone.
